Exploring The West Coast Beaches in Sri Lanka

Now that you’ve finally planned a trip to Sri Lanka, be prepared to experience the REAL fun. Extensive coastline of this island country shares maritime borders with India in the North West and Maldives in South West.

Intriguing characters, warm people, world best hospitality, multiple cultures, languages, ethnicities, sandy beaches, enthralling sceneries and delicious local cuisine- are some of the highlighting factors that make this island an eye candy.

The country observes north-east monsoon from December- April and south-west monsoon from June- October. Majority of tourists who visit this part of the world, prefer going to the west and east coast. Best time to get an even tan and get away from European cold winters is October to May where west coast weather is nice and sunny and sea is calm and welcoming. Both east coast and west coast have beautiful beaches to be discovered and explored. Negombo is the where you will find some of the island’s oldest beach resort, recognised as a key fishing port of the country. Another exciting site of the west coach beaches in Sri Lanka is Kalutara, popular for its mangosteens. Being a lucrative rubber producing district, you can just take a stroll into a factory to find out how latex is converted into sheets of rubber.

There are plenty of things you can do here besides having a gala time in the beaches. And if you really want to make your trip a memorable one, speak to the locals in their native language to learn more about Sri Lanka and hunt for the various activities that you may love.  You will find a completely different reaction in asking a local for directions in Sinhalese (local language) , English or sign language. Making an attempt to speak Sinhala is like a passport to their hearts.
